What's Happening at NNH
NEW!!! Helping Meet the Challenges of Raising Children
Parenting is probably the most challenging job that any of us have. The overwhelming pressures of making the “right” decisions related to another person’s social, emotional, physical and educational well-being is mind boggling. In hopes of providing a hand-up to those we serve with children, the NNH started two programs in June geared towards parents. Baby Basics (a RE:START program) and Parenting classes meet once a month and focus on strengthening parenting skills, educating parents about nutrition, child development, school related issues (to name a few), and providing support. If interested in learning more about this program, please contact Lee Ade Stout at 267-2217.

Special Thanks to Helping Others Group
The Northside Neighborhood House Adult Program has been busy throughout the fall. The Helping Others group has created tote bags for the Memorial Hospital intensive care unit, blankets for the Dialysis Center, and hats for the Erlanger Cancer Center. These women spend their arts and crafts time to give back to our community. We are very proud of their continued effort to inspire and help others. Thank you ladies!
Special Direct Assistance Needs
Our food pantry has been very helpful to families in need recently. Miscellaneous items are also distributed and greatly appreciated by clients. There has been an increased demand this year for basic items related to hygiene and especially for baby items. Below please find a list of items which are needed to help give “a hand up.”
- Diapers-Size newborn, 3,4,5
- Toilet Paper
- Baby Wipes
Director’s Corner
The Northside Neighborhood House is fortunate to have dedicated staff that is proud to help provide “a hand up” to those in need. This summer has been a time of change for clients and program participants at the NNH with the departure of three fantastic staff members.
Sue Miller, Thrift Shop assistant for over ten years, retired at the end of July. Jay Parke, a Children’s Program Assistant, who has worked with the children for over six years left to enter the Army. And Chelsea Johnson, our Education Director, left to take a position in the for-profit sector.
We wish all of them well in their new endeavors! With change comes new additions, and the NNH is thrilled to welcome Matt Facey, our new Education Director on board! Matt is a graduate of Notre Dame High School and Mercer University. His years of experience in the school system and passion to serve children, adults and their families will be a huge asset to our Education Program.
Children’s Program….An Amazing Summer
The NNH Children’s Program wrapped up their last week of camp at the end of July. This was one of our most successful summers due to the implementation of a few new programs for the students. In addition to the normal academic based curriculum, students studied various countries, learned about hobbies, interests and different careers. All of this learning came to life through hands-on experiences provided by a number of generous volunteers who shared their time and passions to show our children the endless opportunities which are available to them. Thanks to the following:
