Supervises: Leadership Team (Chief Stability Officer, Chief Education Officer, Chief Engagement Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief of Executive Strategy, Chief Operations Officer, Chief Development Officer) with ultimate responsibility for all agency staff and the
agency budget.

Organizational Summary: For more than 100 years, Northside Neighborhood House (NNH) has existed to uplift and empower our neighbors north of the river. Today, NNH serves the community through three program areas: the Stability Program, which provides case management, financial assistance, and empowerment programming that helps neighbors move from crisis to long-term stability; Community Schools, which places coordinators in ten area schools to support students, families, and the whole school community; and three Thrift Stores, which offer low-cost clothing, furniture, and household items while helping fund the mission.

Position Summary: The CEO reports to the Board of Directors and leads NNH strategically, operationally, and fiscally to achieve the organization’s mission. This is both an outward-facing and an inward-facing role. The CEO cultivates the funding and the people
NNH needs to fulfill its goals, guides the strategic plan, partners closely with an engaged board, and builds a workplace where a strong team can do its best work. The right person leads with relationships, is at ease asking for support, and keeps NNH accountable to the neighbors it serves. If you can hold vision and follow-through in the same hand, this is your team. This role leads the whole organization; it does not run programs day to day. The CEO is responsible for:

● Organizational strategy, vision and the strategic plan
● Financial health and the annual budget, in partnership with the CFO
● Fundraising, community engagement, and donor relationships, in partnership with the Development Team
● Partnership with the Board of Directors and its committees
● Agency operations, culture, and the development of the Leadership Team
● Agency outcomes, data, and continuous improvement

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Board and Leadership Team to refine and implement the strategic plan, ensuring that budget, staff, and priorities align with NNH’s mission.
  • Lead long-range planning for NNH’s facilities and locations, including decisions about the current building and future sites, so the agency stays proximate to our neighbors.
  • Provide inspiration and direction to the organization and ensure the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization.
  • Establish effective decision-making processes that enable NNH to achieve its long and short-term goals and objectives.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in general operations and NNH programming practices in alignment with industry best practices.

 

Finance

  • Partner with the CFO to oversee the annual budget process and monthly reporting.
  • Set financial priorities accurately to ensure the organization is operating in a manner that supports the needs of programming and staff.
  • Enforce financial policies and guidelines to ensure NNH’s assets are protected, utilized
    effectively, internal controls are adequate, and investment returns are optimal.
  • Communicate with the Finance Committee and Board regarding financial concerns.

 

Fundraising & Community Engagement

  • Ensure that NNH cultivates the funding necessary to meet organizational objectives.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with other nonprofit organizations and community leaders to understand the evolving needs of our service area.
  • Carry a portfolio of major donor and funder relationships, maintaining current relationships and cultivating new supporters.
  • Serve as the organization’s spokesperson throughout the community.
  • Equip and support the board in its fundraising role, including 100% board giving and active participation in donor relationships

 

Board Governance & Partnership

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors.
  • Support board recruitment, onboarding, and development and deepen board members’ working relationships with the Leadership Team.
  • Staff board committees and partner with the Board Chair to build meaningful agendas and strong engagement.

    Infrastructure & Operations

    • Ensure the delivery of high-quality services while managing for growth.
    • Support and motivate the staff and complete reviews and development plans for direct reports.
    • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration and strengthen internal communications, creating an engaged, inclusive work environment.

    Data, Outcomes & Continuous Improvement

    • Own Agency Outcomes and report the results to the board quarterly.Use data to drive decisions and to share NNH’s impact to funders and the community.

    Qualifications
    Education/Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Minimum of ten years of progressive professional experience, including five years of senior leadership experience in long-range planning, visioning, and policy development.
    • Significant fundraising, board development, marketing/branding, and fiscal management experience preferred.
    • Prior nonprofit experience in a network or multi-site environment preferred; private sector executives with experience leading organizations that operate similarly to nonprofits will be equally considered.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Alignment with NNH’s mission and a genuine commitment to serving neighbors north of the river with dignity and respect.
    • Ability to set priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems.
    • Keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • An ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and to achieve consensus amongst differing opinions.
    • Strong presentation and communication skills, and the experience and proclivity to be an outgoing spokesperson, relationship builder, and fundraiser.
    • Strong commitment to the professional development of staff, with a successful track record of recruiting and retaining a diverse team.
    • High ethical standards and excellent financial stewardship.
    • Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office is required. Familiarity with donor management and project management systems is strongly preferred. NNH currently uses Donor Perfect and Asana.
